Ecotect is a building performance analysis tool used by architects, engineers, and sustainability consultants to evaluate environmental factors early in the design process. It combines a straightforward 3D modeling environment with simulations for daylighting, solar exposure and shading, thermal behavior, energy use, and basic acoustics. Key capabilities include interactive sun-path and shadow studies, weather-data visualization, solar radiation mapping, daylight factor analysis, and clear visual outputs to support design decisions. Ecotect can import geometry from common CAD/BIM workflows and is well suited for early-stage massing, façade optimization, and education. Note: Ecotect is considered legacy software and is no longer actively developed.
